この本はPさんにオススメいだたいだThe Timetraveller's Guideシリーズで、子供向けロンドンの歴史本の一冊、「サクソン人とヴァイキングの時代のロンドン」です。本当は一巻のローマ人のロンドンから読みたかったのですが、アマゾンで品切れのため、この第２巻から。
ローマ人が立ち去ってから、ノルマン・コンケストまでを、時代の流れ、風俗などからめて、平易な英語でかかれていてわかりやすかったです。
小学校低学年向けでしょうか。簡潔な説明がわかりやすくてよいのですが、簡潔すぎて笑っちゃうところもあり、いろいろ楽しかったです。
（私が一番ウケたのは、５行でわかるべーオウルフ。
"The most famous Saxon poem is called 'Beowulf'.
Beowulf is the name of the king,who fights a vicious monster called Grendel.He kills the monster.
Then years later,when Beowulf is an old man,he fights a fire-breathing dragon,He wins the fight but the dragon wounds him,and he dies.

中世、シェークスピアの時代、チューダー朝、ヴィクトリア朝、ジョージア朝のロンドンと続くので、読める分は読んでみたいと思っています。
